About Me

I started out a shy girl, but I grew out of it. That’s my old car–The Pussy Car. A shy girl couldn’t drive it, and a man probably wouldn’t either. (A short film about the car: https://youtu.be/6BqAbuQE-YY)

I’m writing a memoir centered around the year I spent working on drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico (1979-80, when I was 18-19): The Key to the V-Door. The chapters alternate between offshore and scenes from my childhood. I’m mostly done, but it’s in different pieces that I have to put together. Some I have yet to write. I’ll be looking for an agent, please send me any recommendations (email below).

Otherwise, I write creative nonfiction, poetry, some political commentary, sometimes all of that together. See “links” for more of me and my writing elsewhere.

I do performance art, too. When people ask me what performance art is, I say, “It’s not a painting, it’s not a sculpture, it’s not always theater. It’s art that takes place over time, and usually involves the artist’s body.” I’m not sure how to include my performance work here.

Two things that feed into who I am are becoming sober at age 26, and being diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 39. I think I’d be dead if I’d kept drinking and hadn’t gotten on psych meds.

I’d like to build an email list to announce progress on my book. I need to figure out how to add a form to this site, but in the meantime, just shoot me an email saying “add me to your book list.” I predict anything I send will be sporadic and infrequent, and you can opt out at any time.

Please email me for any reason! (and if you don’t hear back, please email me again. I have a mild cognitive impairment that can cause me to miss things I don’t want to miss.)
